World Meteorological Organisation

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is the United Nations' specialised agency for meteorology (weather and climate), operational hydrology, and related geophysical sciences. Established in 1950, WMO plays a critical role in promoting international cooperation in the establishment of networks for making meteorological, climatological, hydrological, and geophysical observations, as well as fostering the free and unrestricted international exchange of data.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the organisation has a strong workforce of around 200 employees. WMO coordinates global efforts to improve weather and climate prediction and ensures the standards for data collection and sharing are maintained across the globe. The organisation's initiatives include enhancing the capabilities of national meteorological and hydrological services and supporting the research community in advancing climate science and technology.
