How Schneider Electric will Smash 2024 Sustainability Goals
Schneider Electric serves thousands of customers in more than 100 countries around the world, providing digital automation and energy management solutions.
Through its solutions, the company supports others to become more sustainable through improving energy efficiency, but it isn’t just helping others.
Scheider aims to lead sustainability by example, improving its own impact on the world through clean energy initiatives.
The company announced in October 2024 that it is on track to achieve its year-long 2024 sustainability goals.
“Our achievements this quarter showcase the scale of our impact, with local projects playing a pivotal role in achieving our ambitious goals,” says Xavier Denoly, Schneider Electric’s Senior Vice-President of Sustainable Development.
“Despite these great results, our work is far from over. We must further intensify our global decarbonisation efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, benefiting people and planet.”
Green and reliable energy for 50 million people
Schneider set the goal of providing reliable, green energy to 50 million people by the end of 2024 and it achieved this ahead of schedule.
Around the world, almost 700 million people do not have reliable access to energy – let alone clean energy.
The company has installed its solar power solutions on public facilities across Africa and India.
In Kenya, Nigeria and India, it has installed new hybrid solar solutions for health clinics attended by around two million people.
In India, Schneider has supported powering more than 700 schools with clean energy, benefitting around 120,000 students in their learning.
It is now focussed on improving these efforts so that by 2030 it can support a cumulative total of 100 million people since the start of its programme in 2009.
Schneider Electric’s efforts to improve energy knowledge
Schneider says it has trained more than 763,000 people in energy management as part of its efforts to foster learning, upskilling and development for all generations.
It aims to train 1 million people in energy management by 2025 and double the number of opportunities it provides for interns, apprentices and new graduates.
The company and its foundation have collaborated with Enactus, an experiential learning platform, to support university students from 10 countries to develop entrepreneurial skills related to the energy transition.
Jeanne Laurence, Youth Education & Entrepreneurship Program Officer at Schneider Electric, says: “This initiative is closely aligned with Schneider Electric’s Youth Impact Through Learning initiative, aimed at upskilling youth to shape a just energy transition.
“It also actively champions gender equality by integrating young girls into educational training initiatives.”
How Schneider Electric measures its sustainability progress
Schneider Electric uses Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) Scores to measure progress on its six long-term commitments to the world.
These are a measurement from one to 10, with 10 being the best, of how the company is performing in sustainability.
Schneider set a goal of reaching a SSI score of 7.4 by the end of 2024 and reached a score of 7.29 in October 2024.
Gwenaelle Avice Huet, Executive Vice President of Europe Operations and Member of the Executive Committee at Schneider Electric, says: “I’m really proud that our Schneider Sustainability Impact score for Q3 shows that we are well on track to meet our 2024 ambitions.
“I’m proud to be leading the development of our sustainability program, and want to thank everyone in our business who contributes to us being able to make a positive impact in our communities. Our work continues!”
