Job To ABB - President and CEO
"My priority as CEO will be to build on this success and open the next chapter of growth for ABB working closely with our customers and people." — Morten Wierød
After more than 25 years with the business, Morten Wierød has become ABB’s President and CEO.
Morten was appointed by ABB’s Board and succeeds retiring CEO Björn Rosengren. Björn and Morten will work closely until the end of the year to ensure a smooth handover of leadership.
The Norwegian joined ABB in 1998 and has held a variety of senior leadership roles, including President of Motion and Managing Director of Control Products, as well as VP of operations in China.
His most recent position, President of ABB’s Electrification Business, saw Morten lead ABB’s approach to driving efficient and sustainable electrification.
“I am grateful that the Board has given me the opportunity to lead this great company with its people and technologies that are at the heart of building a low-carbon society,” Morten says.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside Björn over the past years. After we have set more ambitious financial and sustainability standards not long ago, I will continue building on our decentralised operating model to capture the full potential of our market leading positions in electrification and automation.”
Outgoing CEO Björn said: “It has been an honour to lead ABB over the past years and I am convinced that the company will be in good hands with Morten.
“Together with our more than 105,000 people, we have transformed ABB into an agile and purpose-driven leader in electrification and automation that has an important role in helping to accelerate the energy transition. I am convinced that ABB is in a unique position to seize the opportunities ahead.”
Mark Leslie
Job From Eku Energy - Global Director, Market Entry
Job To JERA Nex - Regional Head and Director
Mark Leslie has joined JERA Nex — the newly-launched renewables arm of Japan’s largest power generation company, JERA — and will drive growth, partnerships, investments and operational excellence across APAC for the business.
Mark’s career has seen him work in Singapore, the US, UK and UAE as well as Taiwan. Most of his career has been spent in Singapore, but his experience has seen him set up businesses in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Richard Scott, VP Global Development, Onshore at JERA Nex, says: “Mark knows the APAC energy sector inside and out and having him on our team will be invaluable.
“We have big ambitions for the onshore side of our business, which we plan to account for two thirds of our 20GW by 2035 target. It’s a significant step up and with Mark, the rest of the regional team that we will be recruiting, as well as the experience and resources within JERA Nex, we are in a strong position to deliver and directly contribute to the overall decarbonisation objectives of JERA in the region.”
Launched in April, JERA Nex is dedicated to scaling up renewables globally. The venture has the ambition of reaching 20GW of renewable capacity by 2035 and aims to do so by investing in, owning and operating onshore and offshore renewables assets including wind, solar and battery storage.
Richard adds: “Our aim now is to grow JERA Nex into a global renewable energy leader, scaling fast while building high-quality projects. Our ambition of 20GW net renewable energy capacity, at FID or beyond, by 2035 is a significant step up from where we are today. We are in a unique position to do that with our current pipeline, talent and the backing of JERA.”
Alan Dunne
Job From Aggreko - Operations Director, Europe
Job To Aggreko - Managing Director, UK and Ireland
After a decade working at Aggreko, Alan Dunne has become its MD for the UK and Ireland.
Alan’s appointment is part of a strategic move from Aggreko to strengthen its provision of energy transition solutions. Under his leadership, Aggreko aims to address specific-sector and regional challenges for customers as well as accelerate its growth strategy and innovation.
Alan said: “I am excited to bring my commercial experience to drive Aggreko’s growth strategy.
“Following conversations and input from customers, I am acutely aware of the challenges the energy transition presents and that each customer’s challenges and priorities require a different solution.
“However, with the significant investment in new technologies, services and skills, I can also see how our Greener Upgrades programme is making a difference to businesses which are balancing their commercial goals with net zero targets.
“With further investments planned, this is an exciting time for Aggreko and I am delighted to lead our continued innovation across sectors in the UK and Ireland.”
Alan brings 30 years of commercial experience to his new position. He joined Aggreko in 2014, working in operational and commercial leadership roles across Europe and North America.
Having gained knowledge and experience across the business and through working closely with customers, he is set to develop strategic partnerships with customers in the region to provide suitable flexible energy solutions as MD.
Vinod Philip
Job From Siemens Energy - Member of the Executive Board
Job To Siemens Gamesa - CEO
Assuming the role of CEO, Vinod Philip is underpinning Siemens Gamesa’s long-term plan for profitable wind business growth. He replaces the retiring Jochen Eickholt.
Vinod says: “Jochen laid the foundation upon which we can now build the next stage of our journey.
“I’m committed to working closely with the dedicated colleagues at Siemens Gamesa and successfully turning around the wind power business.”
Vinod’s appointment ushers in a new era for Siemens Gamesa and is the next step in the renewables giant’s transformation — with it implementing comprehensive restructuring measures and a long-term plan for profitable growth in its wind business.
It is hoped that Siemens Gamesa, which generated around €9.1bn (US$9.8bn) in revenue in 2023 — a decrease compared to 2022 where its revenue was €9.8bn (US$10.6bn) — will break even by 2026.
Outgoing CEO Jochen says of Vinod’s appointment: “Now that the foundations have been set, it’s time for this strong team to move ahead.”
This sentiment is echoed by Christian Bruch, Siemens Energy CEO. He adds: “Vinod Philip is an excellent and highly esteemed manager.
“He has the best of both worlds: As Head of Service of Large Power Generation he has gained operational experience and as Chief Technology Officer and responsible Member of the Executive Board of the Global Functions Division he has successfully managed central functions critical to success.”
