How RWE is Boosting Green Energy Across the USA

RWE is on a strategic path towards expanding its green energy footprint across the United States, achieving an impressive milestone by amassing 10 GW of installed generation capacity.
This volume is scattered across more than 170 facilities which host 4.3 GW of solar power, 5.2 GW of onshore wind and 0.5 GW of battery storage over 24 American states.
RWE also has 4 GW of clean energy projects currently under development.
Andrew Flanagan, CEO, RWE Clean Energy, said: “By working with top tier suppliers, partnering with local communities and empowering employees, RWE is generating impact across America with clean, domestically produced electricity.
“We’re fuelling economic growth, creating new jobs and providing millions in tax revenues and additional financial benefits to our partners in the community, while also enhancing national energy security.”
A snapshot of RWE's contributions
RWE's contributions to the US energy sector are substantial - its current capacity is robust enough to power 8.1 million average-sized American homes annually.
The company also offers millions of dollars in lease payments to private landowners, fostering a strengthened economic structure for local facilities including schools and infrastructure while actively supporting local organisations and charities.
It is creating direct jobs and economic growth across its US presence.
RWE said: “We are present in a majority of US states and continue to rapidly scale our US operating portfolio to deliver on our promise of providing cost-competitive, reliable energy that is also creating economic growth and opportunity in communities across the country.”
Addressing the surge in energy demand
In 2024, RWE commissioned new onshore wind, solar and battery storage facilities with a total combined generation capacity of 953 MW.
It brought online six projects across five states.
RWE said: “In addition, we collaborate closely with local communities as we develop projects across the US.
“This includes continuous engagement with communities, providing funding for local organisations and nonprofits, supporting landowners and contributing property tax income to local municipalities that helps pay for new infrastructure, emergency responders, school funding and more.”
New solar projects
Among the newly commissioned projects, the Northern Orchard located in Kern County, California, boasts a 150 MWac solar energy capacity with a co-located 92 MW (368 MWh) battery energy storage soon to be commissioned.
Additionally, the Timberland Solar project situated in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, features a 140 MWac solar farm.
Collectively, these renewable powerhouses are set to power approximately 51,000 average-sized American homes each year.
RWE said: “With now more than 170 operational facilities across 24 states, we’re solidifying our position as one of the country’s top renewable energy providers.
“RWE is building America’s clean energy future while strengthening the communities we serve.”
Andrew added: “We are growing further: RWE has more than 4 GW of clean energy projects under construction in the US and hundreds more under development across the country as we seek to invest US$20bn+ in the US by 2030.
“Thank you to our incredible partners, and the communities that help make this progress possible.”
