Brighter Lights, Better World: Signify's Energy Manifesto

Signify, recognised globally for its lighting innovations, has launched its new comprehensive sustainability programme, Brighter Lives, Better World 2030.
The strategy is designed to meet the dual challenge of rising energy demand and the need for greater efficiency with solutions that support customers, advance society and create long-term value.
“Leadership means showing the way and in terms of sustainability action, we’ve done just that,” the company says.
Tackling global energy pressures
As energy systems across Europe undergo rapid transformation, Brighter Lives, Better World 2030 focuses on expanding access to advanced, efficient lighting that eases pressure on the grid and supports decarbonisation goals. The programme aligns with broader global challenges, including volatile electricity pricing and increasing resource scarcity.
Through connected and electrified solutions, Signify is demonstrating how lighting innovation directly contributes to energy efficiency and resilience. By harnessing the potential of light as a medium for connectivity, comfort and cost savings, the programme seeks to build healthier, safer and more energy-responsible communities.
“Brighter Lives, Better World 2030 is designed to deliver solutions that improve lives, save energy and make better use of resources – which is exactly what our customers are asking for,” says As Templeman, CEO at Signify.
“It shows that impact and opportunity go hand in hand, as we create real value for society, while building a stronger, more resilient company.”
Energy-efficient lighting
Energy preservation sits at the heart of the strategy, with lighting positioned as both a consumer and a controller of energy. Signify continues to expand the role of light beyond illumination – into energy management, urban safety, indoor productivity and even agricultural efficiency.
By 2030, the company expects 41% of its total revenues to come from such solutions, up from 31% in 2024. At the same time, energy efficiency remains a core growth pillar for the business.
“We’re proud to introduce the third chapter of Brighter Lives, Better World,” says Maurice Loosschilder, Head of Sustainability at Signify.
“Our new programme builds on the progress of the past decade, remaining fully committed to our 2040 net zero ambition, with new targets that focus on reducing the energy and resource consumption of our customers, while continuing to drive innovations that improve safety & security, health and well-being.”
Building on advances in LED and connected lighting, Signify’s energy goals include saving 60 TWh of power cumulatively and achieving a 35% reduction in portfolio CO₂ emission intensity.
Initiatives such as the Green Switch programme already back more than 37,000 projects and 10,000 local authorities, providing financing advice and technical expertise to accelerate the shift to efficient, low-energy lighting systems.
Creating circular energy value
Supporting Europe’s wider energy transition, the Brighter Lives, Better World 2030 framework also focuses on material efficiency through a “use less, use longer, use again” philosophy.
This approach is embodied in Signify Circle – a new range of circular services including Light as a Service, remanufacturing and upgrade kits that prolong product lifespans and reduce embedded energy use.
Starting in Europe, circular revenues in Signify’s Professional business are projected to rise from 10% to 27.5% by 2030.
“Our customers want products they can trust – that last for a long time and can adapt to their changing needs,” notes Sophie Breton, President, Professional Business, Europe at Signify.
“Signify Circle will help our professional customers in Europe to make informed choices about the products and services they need to support their circular economy ambitions.”
Building a responsible energy future
Underpinning all of this is a focus on responsible operations – from low-impact manufacturing to fair working conditions and inclusion across the value chain. Transparent progress reports track quarterly performance and reinforce Signify’s 2040 net zero commitment.
By combining innovation in lighting with advances in connected energy management, Signify is not only shaping the next phase of sustainable lighting but also contributing to a smarter, more circular energy system across Europe.
