Enbridge Powers Meta's Shift to 100% Renewable Energy

Meta has entered into a strategic power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enbridge, acquiring the total output from a substantial 600MW solar farm in Texas.
This collaboration signifies a momentous step in Meta’s commitment to powering its data centre operations exclusively with renewable energy, while simultaneously supporting Enbridge's expansion into lower-carbon energy solutions.
Located near San Antonio, the Clear Fork solar project is on track to commence operations by the summer of 2027. Enbridge projects the cost of this undertaking to be US$900m, with plans to retain ownership.
Through this agreement, Meta secures all generated electricity to sustain its burgeoning data centre facilities in the area.
As Urvi Parekh, Meta's Head of Global Energy, says: "We are thrilled to partner with Enbridge to bring new renewable energy to Texas and help support our operations with 100% clean energy."
Enbridge's focus on data centre energy demands
Primarily recognised for its natural gas infrastructure, Enbridge is steering towards renewable energy with projects like Clear Fork, aligning with growing demands from digital infrastructure clients.
"Clear Fork demonstrates the growing demand for renewable power across North America from blue-chip companies who are involved in technology and data centre operations," says Matthew Akman, EVP Corporate Strategy & President of Renewable Power at Enbridge.
The project further cements Enbridge's commitment to expanding its renewable footprint in Texas, exemplified by a recent 130MW solar project in Jim Wells County, also supported by a PPA with AT&T.
Texas: a renewable energy hub
Texas continues to establish itself as an essential market for renewable initiatives, primarily due to its vast land availability, advantageous regulations and strong solar irradiance levels.
With Enbridge currently working on the Sequoia Solar project near Abilene, anticipated to produce 815MW, the state remains at the forefront of renewable expansion.
This strategic positioning not only benefits tech firms like Meta but also contributes to the broader goals of sustainability in the energy sector.
Aligning growth with green solutions
The data centre industry, pressured by the rising energy demands of AI and cloud operations, is rapidly adopting renewable strategies to meet sustainability goals.
Meta's PPA agreements across Texas and other states are part of this broader industry trend toward clean energy reliance.
By ensuring its energy consumption matches renewable generation through PPAs, Meta and similar companies are paving the way for a future where technological expansion complements environmental responsibility.
The Clear Fork venture solidifies this vision, embodying a shift towards reliable, large-scale green power solutions.
