Following China’s ban on exporting antimony to the US, Australia’s Port Pirie has scaled up production of the mineral, which is used in climate technology

Australia’s Port Pirie is fast becoming one of the anchors of the global clean energy supply chain.

The site produces around 15% of all the world's antimony – a mineral that is essential for manufacturing energy storage solutions.

For years, China, Russia and Tajikistan dominated global antimony production, accounting for more than 90% of supply.

This near-monopoly left advanced economies highly reliant on those countries, particularly when it came to the production of renewable energy technologies.
