Behind InstaVolt's All-Renewable Super-Fast-Charging EV Site

The introduction of Winchester's massive ultra-rapid-only EV charging hub is a milestone for the UK.
With facilities focused on rapid charging and renewable energy, this site reinvents the travel experience for electric vehicle users.
The largest ultra-rapid hub in the UK
The hub, located off the A34, connects the South Coast with the Midlands and Northwest.
Close to the M3, it's accessible from a major artery that stretches 151 miles from Winchester to Salford, near Manchester.
The site features 44 state-of-the-art ultra-rapid chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW.
This development underscores InstaVolt's commitment to evolving the UK's EV charging landscape."The Winchester Superhub isn't just a charging hub — it's a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging," says Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt.
"As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and confidently."
Unrivalled charging speed and accessibility
Each charger at the Winchester Superhub is meticulously designed to replenish an EV's battery in about 20 minutes, addressing one of the major barriers to EV adoption — charging time.
- Extended bays for vans and towing vehicles
- Three fully accessible Blue Badge only bays
- Drive-through bays to accommodate larger vehicles
This attention to detail promotes a smooth and efficient charging process, addressing critical needs in the burgeoning EV market.
Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
What sets the Winchester Superhub apart is its integration of sustainable practices.
Equipped with 870 solar panels and a significant 960kW/4MWh battery storage system, the facility can generate and store its renewable energy.
This major leap towards energy self-sufficiency considerably cuts down dependency on the national power grid, marking a significant milestone in ecological preservation.
"This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy—pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging," Delvin says.
The setup not only caters to swift charging needs but also ensures a comfortable break for drivers and passengers alike.
The design makes it more than a simple stopover — it's a comprehensive rest stop tailored to enhance any travel experience.
- A Starbucks café
- A children's play park
- A designated dog walking area
- Green spaces for relaxation
- 24/7 toilet facilities
By incorporating these features, InstaVolt has transformed the EV charging experience from a mundane stop into a pleasant and convenient break for drivers and their passengers.
The future of EV charging in the UK
The Winchester Superhub is not just a response to today's needs but a forerunner to future transport solutions.
This facility blends speed, environmental consciousness and user-focused amenities to alleviate common EV ownership concerns such as range anxiety and accessibility.
As electric mobility becomes an increasing part of UK transport, facilities like the Winchester Superhub enhance the practicality and appeal of EV ownership.
By establishing new benchmarks in efficiency and environmental responsibility, this hub not only meets but anticipates the requirements of modern EV drivers, shaping the trajectory of British transportation.
