Enel and Eni's Procurement Chiefs Driving Energy Transition

Italy's energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation as major companies pivot towards decarbonisation and renewable energy solutions.
Procurement leadership is central to this shift, with executives managing complex global supply chains whilst navigating the demands of energy transition.
Procurement transformation powers energy transition at Enel and Eni
At Enel, Stefano Ciurli heads Global Services overseeing procurement for the entire group. Ciurli brings extensive experience from his previous role as Chief Procurement Officer of TI Group (2008-2012) and his leadership of PTS, an Italian consulting firm, as Chief Executive Officer from 2019 to 2023.
He earned a degree in Economics and Business from LUISS University in Rome in 1987.
Eni's procurement transformation is being driven by Costantino Chessa, Head of Procurement since 2018.
Chessa leads major initiatives focused on aligning the supply chain with Eni's energy transition and decarbonisation objectives. "Since 2018, he has served as Head of Procurement, overseeing Eni's global procurement operations and managing direct purchasing for central functions.
In this role, he is driving significant transformation across the supply chain to align with Eni's energy transition and decarbonisation objectives, whilst also spearheading digital innovation, process improvement and capability development within the function."
Digital innovation reshaping procurement operations
Both executives are prioritising digital transformation within their functions. Costantino's background spans over 25 years in the energy sector, with expertise in leading major transformation initiatives including post-merger integration, cost optimisation and digital transformation programmes.
His commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy transition, with his role as Board Member of Eni Rewind since 2019, Eni's environmental subsidiary focused on circular economy projects.
Across Italy's broader corporate landscape, procurement leaders are championing similar transformation agendas.
Stefan Koller at Generali, Chief Procurement Officer since July 2018, leads efforts to select suppliers that minimise environmental impact.
Stefano Pastori serves as Head of Procurement Strategy and Transformation at Intesa Sanpaolo, bringing expertise in business strategy and change management. Pastori holds a Master of Business Administration from MIP Politecnico di Milano, completed between 2008 and 2010.
At Poste Italiane, Claudio Colella heads procurement for SDA Express Courier, managing a budget in excess of €500 million per year with full responsibility over process, organisation, contracts and systems. Colella has held this Chief Procurement Officer position with bottom line responsibility since 2016, reporting to the CEO.
