Siemens Gamesa’s New CEO Vinod Philip to Secure Wind Profit
As outgoing CEO Jochen Eickholt retires and hands over leadership to Vinod Philip, a new era is ushered in for renewable energy leader Siemens Gamesa.
Jochen — whose career at Siemens spans 25 years — has held several executive positions across the organisation including CEO of Siemens Elektroprístroje s.r.o. in the Czech Republic, Siemens Home and Office Communications and Rail Systems.
He said of Vinod’s appointment: “Now that the foundations have been set, it’s time for this strong team to move ahead.”
Who is Vinod Philip, Siemens Gamesa’s new CEO?
Under Vinod’s tenure, Siemens Gamesa said the wind power division will be integrated into the Group's management structure, with Vinod assuming operational responsibility.
“Vinod Philip is an excellent and highly esteemed manager,” Christian Bruch, Siemens Energy CEO said.
“He has the best of both worlds: As Head of Service of Large Power Generation he has gained operational experience and as Chief Technology Officer and responsible Member of the Executive Board of the Global Functions Division he has successfully managed central functions critical to success.”
Vinod, like his predecessor, also boasts a wealth of experience across Siemens Gamesa and its sister companies.
A prominent figure in the energy sector, he is known for his significant contributions to Siemens Energy.
Before assuming the role of CEO, Vinod was Member of Siemens Energy’s Executive Board following a two-and-a-half-year stint as its CTO and Strategy Officer.
Here, he played a crucial role in shaping the company's technological advancements and strategic direction.
As well as this, Vinod is hailed as an experienced leader who is driving innovation, sustainability and efficiency within Siemens’ operations and the wider energy industry.
He first joined Siemens Energy in 2004 and held a variety of managerial positions before becoming Engineering Director of Gas Turbine Materials and Technology, Head of Gas Turbine Engineering and then CEO of Siemens Generators Business Segment.
Other roles held throughout his more than 20 years with the business include CTO of the Power & Gas Division, CEO of the Power and Gas Services Business Unit and CEO Service Power Generation at Siemens Gas and Power.
A new era for Siemens Gamesa?
Promoting Vinod to CEO is the next step in Siemens Gamesa’s transformation, with it implementing comprehensive restructuring measures and a long-term plan for profitable growth in its wind business.
The aim? For Siemens Gamesa to come back stronger.
A restructure of its top team is expected to thrust the company toward achieving a double-digit operating margin via steps for long-term strategic development.
It is hoped that Siemens Gamesa, which generated around €9.1bn (US$9.8bn) in revenue in 2023 — a decrease compared to 2022 where its revenue was €9.8bn (US$10.6bn) — will break even by 2026 and subsequently return to profitable growth.
Siemens Gamesa, which operates in both onshore and offshore wind, has set out a plan for how it will operate in each moving forward. For onshore business, it will focus on stable markets where it can operate profitably, namely in Europe and the USA.
Onshore wind will see Siemens Gamesa work to increase production capacity, with current expansions happening as planned in Germany, Denmark and France.
The company’s restructure will lead to some job adjustments, with the growth of the offshore sector absorbing many of the affected staff.
